How can I adapt my presentation to an online format?
- Delivering a great online presentation isn’t quite like giving a great in-person presentation. Here are some tips and resources for adapting your presentation to a virtual setting:
- Technical Considerations:
- How secure is your internet connection? If you share the connection, you may need to have sole access during your presentation. We encourage you to use a wired internet connection (ethernet cable, etc.).
- Get comfortable with Zoom. Are there things you need to know or practise beforehand (how to share your screen, un/mute yourself, raise your hand, etc.)?
- If you wish to attend a Zoom practice session and learn about special features, such as Sharing Slides as a Virtual Background, https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/360046912351-Sharing-slides-as-a-Virtual-Background, please contact us.
- Setting Considerations:
- Have a simple (i.e. not busy or cluttered) virtual background
- Where possible, reduce noise and other distractions around you
- Make sure you are lit from the front; if you are backlit, your audience will see you in shadow
- Performance Considerations:
- Stand if you can (make sure you have the lens of your camera at eye-level when standing)
- Rehearse beforehand
- Dress to impress
- Supporting material:
- Consider the supporting materials that best suit your presentation. Video? PowerPoint? Prezi?
- Include images or other visually captivating material for the audience.
